The Weinstein Company has signed a deal granting Vivendi Entertainment (VE) exclusive home entertainment distribution rights to its library.
VE also gets rights to distribute 20 new direct-to-DVD titles from the Weinsteins over the next year.
The Weinsteins’ library includes The Reader, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Diary Of The Dead, the Dragon Dynasty stable, and classics like El Cid and Fall Of The Roman Empire.
“Vivendi Entertainment is a great place to build our home entertainment library and, in keeping with our plan for the company, develop and increase our catalogue business,” The Weinstein Company co-chairman Bob Weinstein said. “We have a relationship with Doug Morris going back 20 years and we are thrilled to be putting our library into Vivendi’s hands.”
“It’s a great honour to be partnering with Bob and Harvey,” VE president Tom O’Malley said. “They are both icons in the film industry and having them as partners takes Vivendi Entertainment to a new level.”
