Yahoo! India has launched an on-demand movie service on the internet and is talks with local production houses to secure content.
Titles already available on Movieplex (movies.yahoo.in/movieplex) include Rock On, Rann and Dil To Baccha Hai Ji.
Described as a “piracy-free, quality entertainment experience”, the service is free to users and advertiser-supported. The service has also been designed for sharing on social networks such as Facebook and Twitter.
“Over 30 million Internet users consume 1.7 billion videos every month across India,” said Yahoo! India managing director Arun Tadanki. “Movieplex is an example of how Yahoo! connects people to what matters to them the most and Indian movie lovers now have the best full-length movies available to them at their convenience.”
According to a ComScore report released in March 2011, Indian audiences currently spend more than 9.1 billion minutes watching online videos each month with entertainment as the leading category.
