The star of The Impossible has earned strong Oscar buzz for her performance as a tsunami survivor. Watts will collect the Desert Palm Achievement Actress Award at Palm Springs International Film Festival gala on Jan 5.
“We’re delighted to pay tribute to Naomi Watts, one of the most gifted and versatile performers to grace the screen,” said Palm Springs International Film Festival chairman Harold Matzner.
Prior recipients of the Desert Palm Achievement Award include Halle Berry, Marion Cotillard, Anne Hathaway, Natalie Portman, Charlize Theron, Michelle Williams, and Kate Winslet.
Watts was previously honoured at the festival for her Oscar-nominated performance in 21 Grams.
The festival is set to take place from Jan 3-14. The Impossible will open through Summit-Lionsgate on Dec 21.
