SND, the film arm of French broadcaster M6, has teamed with prolific French production company Empreinte Cinema for Juan Carlos Medina’s upcoming race-against-the-clock cop thriller The Chase (Abime) starring Sami Bouajila and Julie Gayet.
SND has international rights for the film and will kick off sales at AFM for the murder mystery meets action film. SND and Empreinte produce with Paris-based Once Upon A Time on board as co-producer.
The Chase stars Bouajila as a police officer who failed to find the murderer of a young girl 11 years earlier. When another child is abducted in a similar way just a few days before the case is closed forever, he decides to revisit the unsolved kidnapping. With the help of the missing child’s mother played by Gayet he sets off on a race against time to seek justice before it is too late.
Spanish writer-director Medina is known for 2012 debut feature Painless and 2017’s The Limehouse Golem starring Bill Nighy that both premiered at TIFF. Recent credits include Sky/AMC’s A Discovery of Witches, Netflix limited series Gone For Good and sci-fi series Origins.
Cesar-winning actor Bouajila is known for Oscar-nominated films Days of Glory and Outside The Law, Roschy Zem’s Venice 2022 competitor Our Ties and upcoming Lionsgate The Crow reboot.
Actress and producer Gayet’s most recent credits on screen include Sebastien Bailly’s Like An Actress and Philippe Le Guay’s The Story of Annette Zelman.
SND and Empreinte Cinema, the film arm of Empreinte Digital, recently collaborated on The Squad – Home Run for Disney+. Empreinte is also behind Disney+’s first-ever French-language series Parallels, Canal+’s 2023 International Emmy award-nominated Infiniti and Netflix’s Marianne.
Ramy Nahas, director of international sales and distribution at SND called The Chase “an exciting project with a very strong cast and a director who has an expertise in smart and elevated genre films. We’ve been developing the feature for the past few years and look forward introducing the movie at AFM.”
The Chase began shooting this week in Northern France and SND will release the film in France in 2025.
