Jonathan Entwistle, British director of BAFTA-nominated Netflix series The End Of The Fucking World, is to co-create I Am Not Okay With This, another series for the streaming giant based on the work of End Of… graphic novelist Charles Forsman.
Netflix has given an eight-episode order to I Am Not Okay With This, and Stranger Things production company 21 Laps serves as executive producer.
Based on Forsman’s 2017 comic book, the new series is a coming-of-age story about a teenage girl navigating the trials and tribulations of high school, her family and her budding sexuality, while dealing with mysterious superpowers emerging from deep within her.
Entwistle will be co-creator and director, and Christy Hall is co-creator and writer. Entwistle and Hall will also serve as executive producers, along with Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, Dan Cohen and Josh Barry for 21 Laps.
I Am Not Okay With This is one of several new scripted series ordered this week by Netflix.
The streaming platform also announced South African series Queen Sono, its first original series in Africa, in which Pearl Thusi will star as a highly trained spy whose purpose is to better the lives of African citizens. The series will be created by director Kagiso Lediga and executive producer Tamsin Andersson.
Also ordered by Netflix is Selena: The Series, an officially sanctioned project about the life of Tejano music legend Selena Quintanilla.
The series will be written by Moisés Zamora, a writer on Lee Daniels series Star, and produced by Campanario Entertainment. Jaime Dávila, Rico Martinez, Suzette Quintanilla, Abraham Quintanilla Jr and Simran A Singh will serve as executive producers along with Zamora.
