US filmmaker Nick Richey’s coming-of-age story 1-800-Hot-Nite has been acquired for international sales by Australia’s Odin’s Eye Entertainment.
It is Richey’s sophomore feature, following on from 2019’s Low Low.
When a 13-year-old boy loses his parents in a drug raid, he turns to a phone sex operator for help, as he embarks on a mission to escape foster care alongside his best friends. Dallas Dupree Young, Mylen Bradford, Gerrison Machado and Ali Richey star.
The feature is a Halfway Crooks Entertainment production in association with Lexicon Entertainment, Aloe Entertainment and Sugar Rush Pictures. It is produced by Nick Richey, Ali Richey, Zach Mann, Nathan Presley, Trevor Lee Georgeson, Phoenix Vaughn, Ben Jagger and Warren Pereira.
Quiver Distribution releases the film in North America on November 4.
“I wanted to make a coming-of-age film that was equal parts urban adventure, teen comedy, and gripping drama, but also offer a peak behind-the-curtain of a rarely depicted piece of Americana,” said the director. “Powered by the beautiful, heart-wrenching performances of our young leads, I am immensely proud of what we have achieved.”
