Universal Pictures International (UPI) has named former BBC Worldwide executive Soojin Chung as the new managing director of its operating company in South Korea.

At UPI Korea, Chung will be focused on managing theatrical marketing and distribution of the studio’s films in Korea, also connecting with their downstream division.

Chung was most recently general manager of Korea and Japan operations at BBC Worldwide where her remit included overseeing TV and digital, consumer products, production and live events.

With more than 17 years in the industry, Chung was also executive director in Korea for Sony Pictures Television International, responsible for distributing Hollywood features to local broadcasting and telecom companies.

She also worked at the Walt Disney Company, managing TV and digital distribution in Korea and Hong Kong.

Starting her new position in early December, Chung will be handling UPI titles such as Pacific Rim: Uprising, Blumhouse’s Truth Or Dare, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again in the next few months.

She will report to Niels Swinkels, executive vice president of International Distribution, Universal Pictures.
